Introduction

National Resource Centre for Value Education

 

 

 

A National Resource Centre for Value Education (NRCVE) has been recently set up in the Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations of Education (DEPEE) with the objective of developing and implementing programmes and strategies to renew emphasis on value inculcation and develop relevant material for use by various groups. Head, DEPEE is the coordinator of the Centre.

Among the activities underway are:

Researchers related to study of programmes on value education, analysis of NCERT science textbooks, the value of ‘compassion’, and spirituality and counseling with a view to arriving at information which could be used by interested groups.
Annotation of various types of materials relating to value education in India.
Preparation and production of supplementary reading material for students for inculcation of different values using stories, parables, anecdotes from literature on different faiths.
Resource material for (i) value-education for use by parents, teachers, teacher-educators, and counselors, (ii) training of teachers in values; (iii) training of teacher-educators in affective development with emphasis on arts and aesthetics; and (iv) using dramas as medium for value-development.
 

The available NCERT productions are:

A book entitled Let Us Sing Together containing 20 songs in different languages for inculcating values like patriotism, tolerance, respect, and appreciation of the cultural heritage.
A multi-media package having print and audio material for self-development available with DEPEE, NCERT.

Other programmes include :

Networking with institutions working in the area of value education. Institutions and individuals working in the area may link up.
A lecture series on Education in Human Values which is about to be started. The lectures will subsequently be printed.
A ‘Journal of Value Education’ proposed to be started.
Availability of biographies of eminent leaders and saints with the Chief Business Manager, Publication Division, NCERT.
